Joseph 2.1

This month, I am so happy that it has finally gotten warm enough to play outside! I would stay out all day long if mom would let me. I love to run up and down the hills and driveway, play with chalk, my fire truck, and blow bubbles. I explore everywhere and want to swim in the pool so badly!

Mom has been taking me out all over since it has been warm. We go to the playground, park, and library. Sometimes I get mad that we have to leave, I am having so much fun now that we aren’t stuck in the house.

I still love Thomas and play with my trains and cars everyday. Mom made me a fort out of a cardboard box and I like to go inside and look at my books. I also have fun coloring and playing with play dough.

I have been talking more clearly and using sentences more. My longest one so far has been “Come watch with me, Mom.” (Of course, I was talking about watching Thomas and Friends.) I also like to sing, dance, and play on grandma’s piano. Oh, and being silly and wrestling with Grandpa!

Joseph 12-24 month Retrospective

I thought since I did this last year, it would be fun to do it again. Amazing what can happen to a little body in 365 days.

My sweet little baby is gone. He has morphed into a full-fledged toddler, so full of life and energy. It has been such a joy and pleasure to watch you grow, learn and explore. You amaze me with your never-ending enthusiasim for life and all it has to offer. I love watching you learn and how determined (some might say stubborn) you can be to figure things out. I love how you grab me by the hand and say “Come with!” and pull me to where you want to go. As busy as you are, you always find time to sit and cuddle with me. I hope that you will always do that no matter how big you get. I so look forward to what this next year will bring. Happy Birthday, Joseph William, you are my shining star. Mommy loves you so very much.

I’m two, I’m two, I’m two years old today! That’s so much more than one! Hurray! ! This past year I have grown from a baby into a full blown toddler. I have learned to do so much this year. I learned how to walk -and run!- count to twenty, know my ABCs, colors, how to use a fork and spoon. . .  so many things I can do! Mommy and Daddy can’t get over how big I am. I’M GI-NORMOUS!

Three Years . . . .

Why does it seem like yesterday and yet a lifetime ago? Three years. How is this possible? I cling to your memories, what little we were able to have together. Most of it while you were inside me. I used to chuckle and call you my little octopi, you would both wiggle and squirm and wrestle one another. I think about the brief moment that I got to hold you both, amazed at your tiny preciousness. Rosy pink and oh so fragile. Such fleeting time together, but you are both etched into my brain and my heart.

Your little brother grows and grows. He is so full of life, I sometimes wonder if he will burst. A ball of energy and always on the run. Quick to smile and laugh, he brings joy to everyone. I know that you are both looking after him, keeping him safe in this world.

I struggle this year because we have moved away and I’m unable to visit you today. I feel overwhelming guilt that we are not near you. Please know that no matter where you father, brother, and I live on this earth, we all love you and keep you close to us in our hearts. I love you Mary and Christopher, Happy Birthday my loves.

image_6I’ve been adjusting pretty well to living at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. I miss some of my toys, my room, and my friends, but I’ve made myself right at home and have taken over the entire house. I think that I’ve livened it up around here quite a bit!

I really love playing outside in the snow, only it’s been way to cold to go outside! This makes me REALLY mad, especially when mommy tries to put me in the car and won’t let me run around. Hopefully, it will either get a little warmer so I can play in the snow, or get a bunch warmer so  I can go swimming.

image_5imageMommy has been coming up with some creative ways to keep me entertained. Some of my favorites are baking cookies, coloring, playing “marching band” and going to play with my ball and trucks in the basement. I also like to play hide and seek with Grandma’s cat, but I wish I was better at finding him.

I still love Thomas the Tank Engine, but also really like to watch The Tigger Movie and The Hungry Caterpillar on Netflix. Wonder Pets and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood are also on my preferred list.

image_9image_3I am working on walking up and down the steps a lot. I still have to hold onto mommy or daddy’s hand and the railing, but I’m getting better at it. Soon I’ll be running up and down them just like everywhere else I go.

Only one more month and I will be two years old! Can you believe it?

Sweet Home Chicago

You might have noticed my recent lack of posting around here lately. Well, I’ve had good reasons, to be sure. I’m happy to report that Shawn has accepted a new position and we’re in the process of moving back to Chicago.

As you can imagine, things have been quite the whirlwind. Getting the house on the market, and subsequently sold, packing, getting Joseph and Walter out to my parents, etc. It’s been overwhelmingly insane. Thank goodness for my parents helping us and the aid of some of our good friends. I would probably be moving into the loony bin if it wasn’t for them.

I have to admit that the move is bittersweet. We were so happy to move back here – only three short years ago – to be reunited with our good friends, have our children here, being able to have Jeni’s ice-cream whenever we want. (Just kidding – not really!) But, I am thrilled with being close to my family again. I haven’t lived in the Land of Lincoln since I was 20 years old. I am hoping to rekindle some friendships from school, it will be wonderful to see them outside of the land of Facebook and the Interwebs.

We will be temporarily living at my parents house while we look for a home. They have been so generous and supportive, although I think that my mom is solely focused on the fact that we will have unlimited access to Joe. I hope that we can find a home soon, so we do not wear out our welcome.

I hope to be checking in a bit more regularly to let you know how things are going with transitioning, how Joseph is handling the changes, etc. But for now, I am just going to sit here and listen to this on repeat:

**** Mommy apologizes, but can’t find the camera cord to post photos, she promises to add them ASAP****

This month was so much fun! I had some great times making Christmas cookies, going sledding, and playing with all of the toys that Santa gave me!

I had a very brief, but intense infatuation with ‘Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer Movie.’ I can totally understand why its a classic! So many great songs to sing to, and that silly old elf that wants to be a DENTIST! I laughed and sang along with Rudolf and Sam the Snowman about a million times between Christmas and New Year’s.

20140124-115438.jpg

I am getting really tall now. Over three feet! I can reach on top of the counters and tables. I  also have been learning to walk up and down the stairs. I have to hold on to mommy’s hand, but I’m getting pretty good!

I really enjoyed spending time with my cousin Luke, aunts and uncles, grandma, grandpa, and grammy over the holidays. They really spoiled me this year with gifts, but the most fun was getting to play and be silly with them all.

Joseph: 21 Months

DSC05041This past month has been a rough one. I’ve had a cold, then a cough, then and ear infection. Being sick is not fun, but I’m finally starting to feel better, hopefully mom and dad will stop chasing me around with Boogie Wipes soon!  We did find out that I am 36.5 pounds and 3 feet tall while at the doctor. Who knew I was so big!

Even though I was sick, we still had a lot of fun this month. Mommy and Daddy took me to the zoo -in the dark- to see the pretty Christmas lights and we rode on the train. It was cold out, but I was bundled up in my winter clothes and was wrapped up in my quilt, so I was toasty warm.

DSC05046We also went to see Santa! I was not very impressed with him, but mommy and daddy seemed to have fun, so I went with it.  He should definitely bring me lots of presents this year, since I’ve been very helpful around the house baking Christmas cookies, moving the tree ornaments around, and cleaning out the kitchen cabinets.

I really love to sing right now. Some favorites are “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” “C is for Cookie,” and “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.” I also love all of the music from ‘Follow that Bird’ and the theme song to Thomas’ show. Mommy says that she reminds me of Auntie Roz singing all the time. Maybe I’ll grow up to play music like her some day!

I am really looking forward to this next month. I get to visit all my family for Christmas and hopefully go sledding with my cousin Luke!  Plus, I get to see my Uncle Alan! He is SO BIG AND STRONG! So many fun things to look forward to, I hope you have a Happy Holiday!

Joseph: 20 Months

DSC05032I’m no longer a teen-ager! (Well, in months, that is.) I really had a lot of fun this month. Mommy and Daddy took me to the pumpkin patch – they had the best donuts – and trick-or-treating. We played outside a lot before it got too cold, and did lots of other things.

I started going to a gymnastics class and love to run around, roll on the mats, and play under the parachute! We are taking a break from swim class until after Christmas, but I still practice my moves in the tub every night.

DSC05025DSC05027Have you ever had graham crackers? I am OBSESSED with them. I could eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner, if mommy let me. I get SUPER upset when I find out they are all gone. I even try to climb into the cabinet to check if they are there.

I’m still really into “Follow that Bird” but “Thomas” has taken the number one spot in my heart right now. Well, maybe number two, if you count my beloved vacuum.

DSC05033DSC05035Trucks, cars, and trains are my favorite toys right now. I like to race them all over. I also like to play with my puzzles and read my books. One of my favorite games is “Ready, Set, Go!” with Daddy, he can never catch me!  I also try to jump on the beds whenever I get a chance. I think it is so much fun, but mommy doesn’t agree with me.

I’m really looking forward to this next month, we will be getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas and mom says I will get to try out my new winter coat and snow pants soon!

This month I continue to impress mom and dad with all that I can do. I know my letters and numbers and can point out colors and shapes. My favorite right now are the color yellow and stars.

I color a lot at the kitchen island while mommy and daddy cook. I really like sitting up high in my booster seat. I can see what everyone is up to now!

Playing outside and helping in the garden is so much fun. I pick the tomatoes for mommy, but I don’t really like to eat them. I take a bite and then hand them over.

DSC05022DSC05024

My social calendar is quite full lately. I’ve been going to the zoo with daddy, play time at the rec center with mommy, visiting different playgrounds and swim lessons! I also love to go visit my friends Lola and James to play.

Mommy and Daddy got me a tent and a tunnel to play in. I love to read books in my tent and drag the tunnel all throughout the house. I also have fun doing puzzles at my new play table. It’s just my size!

My favorite show right now is “Follow That Bird” I love to watch it every day and sing along to all the songs. Mommy and Daddy know all the words, too! I still like Super Why, Sesame Street, and Thomas, but nothing gets me quite as excited as when when “Big Bird” movie starts.

I got to visit Grammy Colley and see my great-grandparents and the rest of the family. It was fun to run around Grammy’s house and play in the kitchen. I think I surprised everyone by how tall I am and what I can reach!

I’m looking forward to going to pick out a pumpkin, more visits to the zoo, and playing outside for as long as the weather will let me. Oh, and don’t forget Halloween!
