Spring Fever

We were all jumping for joy when we heard the weather will be warming up (and hopefully sticking around) this weekend. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that we can pack away our snow suit and break out the rainboots and wind breakers!

Outfitted: Night & Day

Night & Day
Since I have a very limited wardrobe right now (about 85% of my wardrobe is in storage) I’ve been having to make my clothes do double duty. I’ve been able to make this work by getting some basics that I can dress up or down depending on the occasion.

101 Things: 38, 49, 50, & 86

Both 38. Take Joe to the beach and  86. Take Joe on a plane were crossed off when we went on our trip to Hilton Head, SC.  He was a champ on the plane and at the airport. Thank goodness! As for the beach, technically, this was his second time there, but he was too little last year to really enjoy it. He absolutely loved the sand and waves. I can’t wait to bring him back again.

49. Get new business cards – done. Ordered and updated with new address.

50. Get new address stamp -done. I loved my old one so much, I got the same one with the new address for the house.

Waterlogue

Painted in WaterlogueI’ve recently become obsessed with Waterlogue. It is an amazing photography app that takes your smartphone photos and transforms them into gorgeous watercolor-inspired works of art. The app is simple, yet amazing. I can’t get over the quality of the rendering and the beautiful results. I’m contemplating having some of these printed and framed to hang in our new home or to give as gifts. If you try out the app, please share your creations or let me know what you think.

Rozalyn’s Quilt

DSC04592

Here’s the quilt that I made for my sister, Rozalyn. I modified a pattern that I saw online, making the internal blocks larger. The majority of the fabric I used was left over from Lucy’s quilt. Roz really loved the colors and fabric when I showed it to her, so I knew that she’d be happy with this one. I added the espresso micro-dot fabric to tone down some of the pink. This came together fairly quickly since I already had some of the fabrics cut into squares and strips. I backed it with green minky that matches the colors from the front of the quilt. I also used this machine binding technique that I found on Pinterest. It looks great with the accent color in the binding, but was a bit time consuming. I might try it again when I wouldn’t be so crunched for time.

BROTHERS store launch today!

Today is a big day for the Colley family. All of Shawn’s hard work is finally coming to fruition  with the opening of the BROTHERS stores. For those who aren’t familiar, Shawn works for Tween Brands, the company that owns the tween girls clothing brand Justice, and was brought in to create and launch a tween boys clothing line: BROTHERS. They’ve been selling clothes online for over a year now, but they are opening stores today. They will be annexed in the Justice stores. I’m a bit biased, but I think that they have some great clothing for tween boys. My nephew is 10 and he loves the cool graphic tees and my sister says that everything fits great and is very durable.

Anyways, I just wanted to say how proud I am of Shawn. He’s worked so hard to make this happen and I think that it is going to be great success. Congratulations, honey!

What am I thinking?

I’ve decided that I’m going to sign myself up to run in the March of Dimes’ Night Moves 5K in September. . . . . I am insane. I HATE running, I’ve never run in a race before and I have no idea how I’m going to get ready for this with a three month old to take care of all day. But, I’m still going to do it. I need the fear motivation of an actual goal/deadline to get myself in gear. Plus, it is for a cause that is dear to my heart.

I’ve been trying to do yoga and various work out routines at home and it’s a real struggle. Running is going to be the easiest thing to do because 1. no special equipment needed 2. I can do it anywhere 3. I can do it at any time 4. It is going to give me the fastest results in relation to getting in shape and weight loss.

My sister recommended that I use the “Couch to 5K” program in order to train. I just completed Day 1. I’ll let you know how things go. I’m also going to invest in an actual jogging stroller so I can take Joseph with me. I’m hoping to find a secondhand one on Craig’s List or at a resale shop. I’m also going to try to talk Shawn into running it with me, that way we can support one another in the process.

The main thing is that I am putting this out there for the world to see to keep me from backing out of it. Guys, I really need some support here. I am terrified. Wish me luck.

Rhinovirus

I’ve been battling a cold for the past week and it finally hit me full force on Friday while in Minneapolis. I powered through it for the weekend, but now I am home and need to going on lockdown until this thing has run its course. Went to the doctor to get some meds to help in the fight. Will have to post about the trip later in the week.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

The flag is flying, I’m wearing scarlet and gray, and my buckeye necklace is polished to a high shine. Yes folks, tonight marks the kick off of the 2010 Ohio State Football season. Something that I have been looking forward to since January. My favorite time of year, as the hubby says, “When Football is King!” There is truly nothing better than some smash mouth football. I’m in heaven!

Taking the Plunge

I have a big announcement to share with everyone. I’ve been debating on whether or not to do this for some time now and I’ve finally decided to take the plunge and open up a shop on Etsy. Drum roll, please. . . . . Widdershins Handmade Knits.

My mom, Roz, and Shawn were the ones who really talked me into doing it. I really love knitting and have been making things as gifts for people for a while now. Actually, I’ve been trying to think of people to give items to just so I can knit them! I’ve been told many times that I should open a shop or try selling my work, I’ve thought about it often, but never really got up the nerve to do so. The thing that pushed me over the edge was my mom “commissioning” me to make a couple of baby sweaters for her to give as gifts to some of her staff. It gave me the “Okay, I can do this!” mentality I needed to push myself forward.

I just opened the shop on Etsy yesterday and have posted two items for sale. It will be a work in progress to figure out how this will work, but at least I’m out there now. I excited and looking forward to seeing where this new adventure will take me!
