Hipsters

Ok, there is an ongoing joke between a few of us about the new “hipsters” that are out there. Basically, viewing them as a newly found species that you would see on the Discovery Channel. Please read this article, it might help explain our point of view. Totally hilarious.

Color

If you have time, please check out this online version of MOMA’s current exhibit “Color Chart: Reinventing Color 1950 to Today”. It has some great works shown as well as an interesting time line of how the use of color has changed in contemporary art.

I truly enjoy the genres of abstract expressionism and color field and feel that sometimes it is not always fully represented. So, it was great to see some different works than just the usual Pollocks and Rothkos. Let me know what you think.

Whoa . . .

I have no idea where to begin. A ton has been going on since my last post. Since it would take about 15 hours to write everything out, I am going to do a condensed “list” form to bring you up to speed.

1. Flew to CMH, Southwest airlines sucks.
2. Rental car was a red Suburban. BEHEMOTH. Still feeling guilty about the carbon footprint on that one!
3. Had small mental break when having to throw out my 14 year old Lip Smacker collection.
4. Dinner at Spagio Wine Cellar with friends, good times.
5. Quaker Steak and Lube with the knuckleheads. Lots of laughs.
6. Feeling awkward when the movers were packing all of our wordly possesions while listening to Rush Limbaugh. What!?
7. Feeling no sentimentality whatsoever when closing the door to 1286 Morning for the last time. I was done.
8. Hanging out with Dave and Christi. Already looking forward to HHI.
9. Drove home, unpacked, did laundry, repacked, flew to Las Vegas.
10. Gambling, drinking, pool, lazy river, piano bars.
11. No sleep.
12. More drinking and gambling.
13. Congratulations to JT and Tara.
14. Fly home, lose voice for three days and try to regain lost sleep.

SOLD!!

Thank you, God. We have finally sold the house in Columbus. Can you believe it?!! Words cannot express how happy I am that this is finally over. We can not officially move on with our lives here in Madison. Speaking of moving, geez this is going to be hectic. Shawn and I are having to fly out to CMH this weekend to meet with the movers on Monday and Tuesday, then drive back here on Wednesday with the remainder of our stuff that can’t go into storage. I am happy to get the rest of my clothes and shoes and things. Also greatly looking forward to seeing our friends again. It has been quite a while. I know that Shawn is looking forward to it as well. He hasn’t been there since October!

This is going to be hard as well. I have a feeling that it is finally going to hit me that we are no longer living in Columbus, the place that I have called home for the past 13 years. I hope that I don’t get too sappy.

Hectic . . . geez, I just realized that we are basically going to be going from CMH back here and then turning around again to go to Las Vegas for JT and Tara’s wedding. Oh lord, this is going to be nuts. Please be patient if I do not post again soon.

Happy Birthday, Dad.

Just wanted to say happy birthday to dad. As you can see, he is the coolest dad in town. Thank you for all of you have given to me: my great sense of direction, good memory, ability to fix things, my hair, and of course being able to not take myself too seriously. You are a “bad man” for sure. Love you!

Fabu Weekend

This weekend the hubby and I went down to Chicago to visit my sister and to help celebrate a dear friend’s birthday. We went to a cute bar in Hyde Park for a couple of pints. (Newcastle, my fave.) Then on to Wicker Park for what was probably one of the best dinners I have had in my life. The restaurant is Enoteca Roma and I cannot recommend it enough. Every single bite was delicious and I am still dreaming about the homemade caramel panna cotta. It was heavenly. After the feast we went to a little bar in Logan Square and had a few more drinks before calling it a night. Lots of fun and TONS of laughter. I can’t wait to go back and do it again.

But can they make sweaters?

So I read this really interesting article in NYT today about a group that has been crocheting forms to recreate the Great Barrier Reef. Think of it as an environmental version of the AIDS quilt. It sounds like a really creative way to blend art and activism and awareness.

I personally have never crocheted, but have always been interested in the process. What a great way to relax, meditate, and make things! I would love to try it, but hate to admit that I am a bit intimidated. I have never been that good at learning those types of things. Possibly because I am left-handed and all instructions are for you dominating righties. Try having to mentally reverse all of the directions in your head to make sense to you. Hard! Maybe if I could find some leftie directions or find someone to teach me. . . any suggestions?
