Showdown

The Buckeyes are coming to play up here in Madison this weekend. Living in exile from The Buckeye State, it is something that I’ve been looking forward to all season. It is very surreal to live in a college town that is not Columbus, seeing Badger stuff in stores and on the news, it makes me yearn for my alma mater. Nothing is finer that a crisp fall day at The Horseshoe watching a Buckeye victory. With the #1 ranking making a target on our backs, I know it will be a tough game, but I have faith that The Silver Bullets will bring us to victory.

It should be a fun weekend, we have a group of friends making the trip out here to visit and enjoy the game. We’ll be having a get together at the house for a bit, then heading down to campus to go to an OSU alumni-sponsored tailgate before the game. It should be a great time.

Ticket Taker Earrings

I just made a little purchase on Etsy from Sulu Designs. I’ve other earrings in the past, I just love her design aesthetic. I thought that these distressed copper earrings would be perfect for fall. They are simple, bold, and modern with a cool industrial edge. Great for everyday wear. I really like the beautifully subtle difference between the metal tone of the ear hooks and the rectangles. I can’t wait until they arrive!

The Perfect Fall Jacket

So, I’ve been searching for a casual fall coat for quite a while now. I wanted something that would be good for taking the dog for a walk, running errands or going to a football game. Something that would keep me warm and dry while but not too technical or sporty. I’ve been pretty envious of Shawn’s Barbour waxed cotton jacket, but thought that it was way too manly for me. It has that barn coat cut that is not, um. . .flattering in the chest area. I look like I’m trying to hide a country ham under there or something.

Anyways. . . I’ve been searching high and low and was super happy to discover a feminine version of his coat done my Eddie Bauer. Now, I haven’t really thought about EB since the late 80’s, but I have to admit those guys have made a real turn around the past couple of years. But, I saw this coat in one of their catalogs and thought it might be just what I’m looking for. Made out of waxed cotton, it is durable, water repellant and wind resistant. The olive color is on trend while still classic and the cut is much more flattering with it’s front darting and adjustable waist tabs. I know that this is going to end up being my go to jacket for this fall and many more to come.

No Pressure

I found out about this video from 10engines and I just had to share it. Simply brilliant!

10:10 is a global campaign to cut carbon emissions by 10% a year. They’re hoping to a planet-wise push to join on Sunday (10.10.10) hopefully, you’ll join in, no pressure.

Take Ivy Kit

I saw this on the Jack Spade site and thought that it was a neat take on the Take Ivy phenomenon. For those of you not obsessed with “trad” bible, Take Ivy is a collection of of candid photographs shot on the campuses of America’s elite, Ivy League universities. First published in Japan in 1965, the series focuses on men and their clothes, perfectly encapsulating the unique academic fashion of the era. Now considered a definitive document of this particular style, rare original copies are highly sought after by “trad” devotees worldwide. (Of course, Shawn has one.) This August, a reprinted edition has been released and this time in an English translation.

So, in order to celebrate the occasion, Jack Spade and K-Swiss have partnered up to create a limited edition sweatshirt and book belt to accompany the US release of Take Ivy. They’ve produced a heavy gauge crewneck sweatshirt with orange silk screened elbow patches and is cinched with the book by a custom bridle leather book strap made in NYC.

Wanting: Keble College Oxfords

I really love a good spectator, but sometimes they can get a little “manly” for my tastes. I feel like there is a fine line between menswear-inspired and looking like I’m wearing a pair of Shawn’s Aldens. I found these today on Anthropologie and I think that they’re just the thing. Great menswear style while still feminine. The stacked heel and creped sole are spot on. The chocolate and navy suede color combination is just perfect for fall. I could see myself wearing them with jeans or dressing them up with some tights and skirt. Here’s the best part: they’re on sale!

Farm Aid Turns 25

This weekend a group of us are heading to Milwaukee to see the Farm Aid concert! I’m sure that most of you recall the first Farm Aid concert back in 1985, it was first organized by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land. – I can clearly remember watching it on TV with my sister and talking about it at soccer practice. – Well, they’ve continued on for the past 25 years (Dave Matthews joined them in 2001) and have raised over $37 million to promote a strong and resilient family farm system of agriculture. A cause that has come to the forefront in recent years, they’ve been focusing on fostering connections between farmers and eaters by growing and strengthening local and regional markets and working to get family farm food in urban neighborhoods, grocery stores, restaurants, schools and other public institutions in addition to providing immediate and effective support services to farm families in crisis.

More than just an all-day celebration of music, it will also celebrate family farmers and good food. The concert will feature HOMEGROWN concessions—family farm-identified, local and organic foods. The Farm Aid Village will also showcase hands-on activities that give concertgoers a chance to meet farmers, learn how family farmers are growing good food, protecting our natural resources and connecting us to our roots. They’re also calling on concertgoers to bring non-perishable food items with them to the concert for a food drive that will benefit Milwaukee’s Hunger Task Force.

It’s going to be a good time for a great cause. Can’t wait!
