Woot!! It finally here!! Shawn’s mom was sweet enough to order me one for Christmas, but it has been back-ordered. I can’t wait for it to be charged up so I can play with it. Oooh, what am I going to read on it first? Oh snap! I just realized I’ll be able to travel with it on my trip to Columbus next week!! I’ll be the envy of every one on the plane. Ha!
Pulloverpalooza
I just finished up making some baby sweaters to bring out for Elias and Grayson. I used the “Child’s Placket Neck Pullover” from Joelle Hoverson’s Last-Minute Knitted Gifts. I used this pattern previously, so I knew what I was in for and felt that I had enough time to get it completed. I am feeling a little ambitious, so I think that I make another one for Dawn’s little girl, Gabrielle. I have some plum-colored yarn that would be perfect.
Girly Weekend II
I am so excited! Yesterday I booked my flight to go visit Kaci and Dawn in Columbus. I have been dying to go out and see them. They both had new babies in Oct/Nov and I need to get in some serious snuggle time with them both. I have been working on some cute little knitted gifts for them both and I also plan on bringing out my camera to take a ton of pictures.
I have been missing them both terribly recently. I think part of it is the weather. The three of us would hibernate for most of the winter – playing Tetris, watching movies, and tons of laughter. Just what I need to get through this dreary time of year.
I am also excited to report that we have booked our condo for the annual Hilton Head, SC trip! We have been going with our dear friends, Dave & Christi, for the past few years and it is always such a good time. June can come soon enough!
NaKniMitMo!
Ravelry is having a Mitten Knit Along. Why mittens? Well, January is one of the coldest months of the year and mittens are much warmer than gloves. They are also relatively quick to knit. Since I need a pair of mittens to wear while playing with my new camera outside – too cold to go without, too hard to shot with normal ones on – I decided to join in and knit myself a pair of Photographer Mittens! Any one care to join? What mittens will you work on?
Why Hello There. . .
There’s a new man in my life. Well to be more precise, a new camera. (But it is manly looking, isn’t it?) Please meet my new Sony Cybershot DSH-H20. It’s he handsome with his 10x zoom and Carl Zeiss lens?
Received as Christmas present from the hubby, it is exactly what I wanted. I had an old, battle-weary Cybershot that has been much loved, but seen better days. This time around I wanted something with a greater zoom and the option to shoot manual exposures, but still being compact enough to travel and to take simple point-and-shoot photos. He’s the best of both worlds.
I am really jazzed about being able to get back into manual photography. I haven’t done any since college, so I am pretty much back at beginner status. I went to B&N and picked up Bryan Peterson’s Understanding Photography Field Guide to help me get back in the swing of things. I promise to post some pics once I get some decent shots going. I might even start up a Flickr account! Squeeee!
What’s your type?
More for all those typography lovers! Pentagram recently invited friends and clients to visit their resident psychiatrist. You, too, can drop by his office to learn what typeface most suits your personality. This descendent of Freud will ask you four questions, take some notes, and then reveal your "type," complete with a history lesson on that font. I was diagnosed as Cooper Black Italic. Give it a try right here. The password is "character."
What this elf made.
I thought I’d show off some of the gifts that I crafted this year for the holidays. The majority of them are knitting projects, however I did also sew aprons with matching oven mitts for Ashley and Roz. I also made one for Shawn’s grandmother, but didn’t get a picture of her in it.
I truly enjoyed making these gifts instead of just purchasing them. I did learn a few lessons, mainly start WAY earlier in the year and to plan out a list of what projects are for what people. I think that if was a bit more organized, it wouldn’t have been so hectic or confusing on who was getting what.
Hope you enjoy!

A Celebration List
While considering what I might resolve for the coming year it occurred to me that such resolutions often seem to serve only one purpose: to remind me of my failures over the past twelve months. I have a bad habit to go quickly to my shortcomings and examine only my inadequacies. So instead, I’m going to reflect a bit and celebrate my successes. I think this will give me more confidence in my future resolutions.
1. Came to terms with not working outside the home and finding joy in the opportunities it has given me. I know that this will not last, so I want to savor it – not be ashamed of it.
2. Feeling good in my skin (more days than not)
3. Teaching myself how to knit and turning it into a real passion!
4. Getting over my fear of the sewing machine and jumping in with both feet. I still have much to learn, but am quite proud of my growing skills.
5. Being able to be there for my family when tough times occurred.
6. Nurtured old friendships and made new ones.
7. Successfully being married to Shawn for four years!
