Back in town.

Vacation was great! We spent a week in Orlando with Roz, Luke, and Shawn’s mom. We did Disney and Epcot in addition to catching some pool time. We even celebrated Shawn’s birthday at Medieval Times!! Will post some pictures when I get a chance.

Beerfest

This weekend, Shawn and I went to check out “The Great Taste of the Midwest 2008” aka Beerfest. Think about 100+ brewers/brewpubs serving over 500 different kinds of beer in a beautiful lakeside setting with a view of the state capitol. The weather was absolutely perfect and they keep the size small by selling a limited number of tickets. But enough about the setting, lets talk about the beer!

I didn’t keep count of the number of beers tasted (servings are 3 oz) but here are a few of my favorite’s Old Hat Bewerey had a delicious Cherry Pilsner called Cherry Baby. It was light, crisp and refreshing with a hint of fresh cherries. Almost like a champagne than a beer. Another good one was Prairie Rock Brewing Company’s Vanilla Creme Ale. Delicious. Nice and creamy, think of a cream soda for adults. . . and I normally don’t like cream soda! Unfortunately, I do not remember the names of the brewer’s, but I also had a fantastic imperial stout, a yummy blueberry stout, and a raspberry lambic that was out of this world.

Shawn and I have already decided that we are going to go again next year. Hopefully, we’ll be able to talk some of our friends into joining us. Oh, and next time I have to make us pretzel necklaces!

Home again

What a fantastic vacation. A wonderful week of swimming at the pool, hanging out at the beach, and laughing a ton with good friends. I am so glad that we went, I only wish that we could have stayed a bit longer. . . although the best part was coming home to our wonderful new house.

HHI here we come.

Well, after a very hectic week of unpacking, we are going to be leaving for our much needed vacation to Hilton Head. I am so looking forward to relaxing on the beach and drinking a few foo foos at the Salty Dog. Hurray!!

Whoa . . .

I have no idea where to begin. A ton has been going on since my last post. Since it would take about 15 hours to write everything out, I am going to do a condensed “list” form to bring you up to speed.

1. Flew to CMH, Southwest airlines sucks.
2. Rental car was a red Suburban. BEHEMOTH. Still feeling guilty about the carbon footprint on that one!
3. Had small mental break when having to throw out my 14 year old Lip Smacker collection.
4. Dinner at Spagio Wine Cellar with friends, good times.
5. Quaker Steak and Lube with the knuckleheads. Lots of laughs.
6. Feeling awkward when the movers were packing all of our wordly possesions while listening to Rush Limbaugh. What!?
7. Feeling no sentimentality whatsoever when closing the door to 1286 Morning for the last time. I was done.
8. Hanging out with Dave and Christi. Already looking forward to HHI.
9. Drove home, unpacked, did laundry, repacked, flew to Las Vegas.
10. Gambling, drinking, pool, lazy river, piano bars.
11. No sleep.
12. More drinking and gambling.
13. Congratulations to JT and Tara.
14. Fly home, lose voice for three days and try to regain lost sleep.

Fabu Weekend

This weekend the hubby and I went down to Chicago to visit my sister and to help celebrate a dear friend’s birthday. We went to a cute bar in Hyde Park for a couple of pints. (Newcastle, my fave.) Then on to Wicker Park for what was probably one of the best dinners I have had in my life. The restaurant is Enoteca Roma and I cannot recommend it enough. Every single bite was delicious and I am still dreaming about the homemade caramel panna cotta. It was heavenly. After the feast we went to a little bar in Logan Square and had a few more drinks before calling it a night. Lots of fun and TONS of laughter. I can’t wait to go back and do it again.

Back in MSN

Back in MSN. Drove back to mom’s on Saturday and then completed the drive back yesterday. Good to be back with Shawn. Missed him tons. Also happy to get back to continue working on the house things.

A bit tired today, hoping that I am not catching a cold . . .

Visitin’

Went over to my friend Dawn’s house yesterday afternoon. It was so good to see her and her little girl. She is getting so big!! She is one of those friends that no matter how long it has been since I saw her last, we pick up right where we left off. She is one of the people that I will miss most when we are completely out of CMH.

Today I am going to meet another close friend of mine for lunch. She is really more of a sister than a friend. We have been through it all together and keep laughing all the way. I hate to even think about not being able to run over to her house whenever I feel like it. We have gone through so much together, college, boyfriends, work, marriage, everything.

Why can’t Madison be a little closer?

Back in CMH

Well, after a long drive from the parents, Walter and I are back in Columbus. The house is in one piece, but unfortunately not sold. Will be getting the mail and attending to the house for a week or so before I head back to Madison. Feels a bit odd to get back in town after being gone for so long. . . .
