Well, I have to say that I’ve come to a screeching halt in the crafting department to to my nemesis: Carpal Tunnel. It has gotten so bad that my fingers are permanently numb and I have shooting pains up my arms when I so much as try to use a pen to write. (It took me three days to do my thank you cards for my shower.) So I am having to put aside any thoughts of crafting for a while. I am praying that this clears up once the baby gets here, I do not want to have to get cortisone shots or surgery. Ugh. If things clear up any, I’ll be sure to post any updates. Until then, please enjoy some crafty time for me!

She’s Crafty 365
I’ve been pondering what my New Year’s Resolution should be and one thought keeps coming back into my head: How am I going to be able to continue to create when the little guy gets here? Everyone keeps telling me how busy I’ll be with once the baby comes and how I won’t have any time for anything else after he arrives and this really bothers me. I know that he will be my number one priority and that I’ll be slept deprived, etc. But, I also know that I need to have some sort of creative outlet in my daily life or I will truly go insane. Whether it be knitting, sewing, cooking, crafting, etc. I know that I need to figure out a way to keep this as a part of me. It helps me deal with stress, gives me so much satisfaction and helps keeps me centered, so I know that I have to make time for myself to have this even though the baby is going to step into my world. I am a bit overwhelmed by trying to figure how to do this, but if people can work full time and be a mom, I should be able to find a minute or two throughout the day for this, right?
In order to help in this endeavor, I’ve resolved to start my own personal She’s Crafty 365 Challenge. I propose that everyday I make time for some sort of crafting. (I’ll be using this term loosely, it could mean sewing, doodling, trying out a new recipe, knitting, etc.) Even if I only get in 5 minutes, I have to take the time to do so. Yes, I will miss days due to the baby and other things that come up in life, but I am going to do my best. I will also attempt to hold myself accountable by recording my efforts over on my She’s Crafty page. For those of you that haven’t moseyed over there, its where I have been logging my recent projects as well as any news about Widdershins Knits, my Etsy shop. I hope that you’ll support me on this self-imposed challenge and that maybe it will inspire you as well.
Taking a knitting hiatus
Well, I’m going to have to take a break from knitting for a while. I’ve been having some issues with carpal tunnel in both wrists/hands. Tingling numbess and pain do not go well with knitting. I got some lovely braces to wear that are supposed to help, so we’ll see what happens. I’m trying to look at the bright side of this by trying to focus on some sewing projects that I want to do for the little guy. I think that won’t be too hard on my hands, so we’ll see how that goes.
BTW, I had a OB/GYN appointment yesterday and all is well with the baby and my cervix is “primo” according to the doctor. I’m at 23 weeks now and the count down continues.

Penguin Threads
Not sure if anyone has seen this yet, but Oh Lord! Aren’t these beautiful? Jillian Tamaki is an amazing artist and she’s done a collaboration with Penguin Books as part of their Deluxe Classics project. Tamaki created illustrated book covers for The Secret Garden, Emma, and Black Beauty. I love how she contrasts a traditional crafting technique with modern colors and images.
Unfortunately, Penguin will not be producing the covers as individual embroidered objects (I’m not sure how that would be possible without making the books exorbitantly expensive.) They will instead be produced using a printed, sculptural-embossing technique that will emphasize the stitches. They should be available at most major and indie books stores.
Please check out the full post for additional images of these gorgeous covers.
Humbly tooting my horn.
I just had to share that my knits have been featured on the blog N’East Style today. Christine Mitchell, the woman behind the amazing style blog was gracious enough to approach me via Twitter about doing a post on some of my knitwear. After pulling myself off of the floor, I quickly accepted. Christine has a fantastic eye for both men’s and women’s fashions. I particularly love how she interprets the current menswear trend of trad/workwear for women. So great to know that others out there are more interested in duckboots and tweed than four inch stilettos and micro minis. If you have time, please check out her site, you won’t be disappointed.

This just in: she’s crafty
So, I’ve been looking at my postings and decided that I am going to start a separate section on here that will be a special area just for my knitting/sewing/crafty posts. I’m calling it she’s crafty. (Cue The Beastie Boys now.)
I feel like this will help focus things a bit and will give me a little more freedom to write about how creating/crafting effect my everyday life. Ideally, I’ve want to grow this section to include some how-to’s, tutuorials, and maybe even (gulp) patterns that I come up with.
I will still be posting on the main widdershins page, but I want that to be more about my thoughts on current events, photography, and my wackadoo life in general. Hopefully, this will be enjoyable for myself and for those that check in to see what I’m up to!
The great washcloth project.
I have just finished knitting a washcloth marathon project. Six washcloths in two weeks, plus a soap sack. Three washcloths and the soap sack were for a dear friend to celebrate her moving into a new apartment. The other two were because I had the leftover yarn and decided to . . .just keep going. Suffice it to say, I am not knitting these again for quite some time. I will admit that they are super easy and fast to knit up. Perfect for watching some LOST and Fringe. Now I’m moving on to attempt a Clapotis. Wish me luck!
BTW That project I sneak peeked earlier? Well its done, I just need to get a photo. I promise to post in next week.
