Just not feeling it.

Grinch

I’m having a hard time getting into the holiday spirit this year. I’m not quite sure what it is, maybe because things are so hectic with holiday parties, shopping, cooking, etc. on top of my already frazzled daily life I just can’t relax enough to get in the mood.

I am feeling pretty bad about this because its Joseph’s first Christmas. Shouldn’t I be giddy with excitement over starting new family traditions and sharing the holiday with him for the very first time? . . .(Sigh) Maybe if I had more energy – or time – I’d be able to have sugar plums dancing in my head. Right now it is visions of a to-do list as long as my arm.

This weekend, we’ll be taking Joe to see Santa. Hopefully, this will un-Grinchify my heart. Am I the only one who feels this way? What do you do to help you get into the Christmas spirit?

Joseph: Five Months

Holy cow did this month fly by! This was a big month developmentally for Joe, so many changes!

I now have my two bottom teeth! I am much happier now that they broke though, although I am still very drooly. I also started eating cereal this month. I absolutely love it and have a great appetite.

I am scooting backwards a bit and starting to try to get up on my hands and knees for a few seconds at a time. My favorite thing to do is jump in my Jumperoo. Once I get going, watch out!

I laugh and giggle with mommy and daddy and love playing on the floor with Walter. I still love to go in the pool and splash in my tub. I am still fighting my naps, but sleep at night like a champ.

I am a happy little guy and every day my personality comes out more and more. I can’t wait to show you what I can do this month!

Three Oranges Photography

When we went to my parents for Memorial Weekend, We had my friend, Angi, take some photos of Joseph. She is an amazingly talented photographer and just started her own company, Three Oranges Photography!

Angi was fantastic to work with: very professional, fun and great at making us feel relaxed and comfortable. Exactly how you want to be when being photographed. I HIGHLY recommend her to everyone in the Chicagoland area. Here are some shots she took, let her work speak for itself:

Let’s catch up.

Sorry for the break in posting, but I needed to take a little bit of time off since things were pretty hectic. A little blog vacation as it were.

So, what has been going on around here? Well, quite a lot. We had family in town most of the week prior to the holiday. Shawn and my dad were in a golf tournament together, so while they were frying in the heat on the links, my mom, sister, and I got ready for Joseph’s baptism on the 1st. (I’ll be following up with posts on this later in the week.) Thank goodness we didn’t lose power, so many around us did, I would have done lost my mind. After everyone left on Monday, time was spent putting the house back together and hiding from the heat. We didn’t do much of anything on The Fourth, it was ridiculously hot and Shawn only had that day off, so it was great to just relax and get putter around the house a bit. This weekend was errand running, attending a free carnival (Shawn’s company puts it on for the families each year. So fun!) having a lovely brunch and hitting the pool with friends. I’m trying to get us back in a normal routine this week, but the craziness will be upon us soon – Shawn has to go out of town again for work next week, but thank goodness Mom is going to come out to stay and help me with Joe.

So, that pretty much sums up what’s been going on around here. How has your summer been treating you?

Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to my wonderful Dad. Ever the character and always ready with a quotable phrase, you’ve taught me about kindness, hard work, and a sense of family. I love you.

Happy Father’s Day as well to my amazing husband. As your first Father’s Day with Joseph, I feel this one is extra special. I love being able to watch you grow into your new role and nothing more makes me happier than seeing you with our son. I love you.

Gratuitous Baby Photos

I haven’t shared any photos of Joseph lately, so I thought I’d show him off a bit. He is getting so big -three months next week!- I just can’t believe it. His personality is really starting to come out now and it’s so much fun to finally have some interaction when we play.

This weekend Grandma Cathy is coming to visit and we’ll also be taking him to the pool. He went in at my parent’s over Memorial weekend and seemed to enjoy it. Hopefully, he’ll be into it again, since it is going to be a scorcher.

Hope that everyone has a great weekend!

I call this one his PeeWee Herman grin.

Rough Morning

. . . and we’re back.

Well, we are back from our trip out to visit my family. It was a great time and I was so happy on how well Joseph did on the trip. We ended up leaving Thursday night so he could sleep in the car on the way there. This was both good and bad, good because he slept like a dream and bad because Shawn and I were so tired ourselves.

Friday I took the little one to see my mom at her school. She was bursting at the seams, she was so proud and excited to show him off to her staff. I am glad that we were able to do that for her.

Saturday was the party, what a great time! It was so wonderful to celebrate Joseph and welcome him to the family. My only regret was that I didn’t get to spend enough time talking to everyone. We are so bless to have so many wonderful family and friends. We also incorporated a photo session for the baby into the day. My dear friend Angi is an amazing photographer and she started her own company, Three Oranges Photography. I’ll be doing a full post on this once we get the proofs from her. But let me say now that it was AMAZING!

The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing and enjoying ourselves with the family. We even took Joe for his first swim in my parents pool! He was so calm and content as Shawn carried him around in the water. It makes me even more excited to bring him to the pool this year.

All in all, it was a great weekend. I hope that the rest of the summer is just as perfect.
