Want to get Steampunk’d?

I was reading this article on NPR’s website today and found this really interesting. It deals with an artist that is “steampunking” computer monitors, keyboards, and other technological gadgets with brass fittings, leather casings, and Victorian finishes. Think Steve Jobs meets Jules Verne or something that you would see in a 1930’s science fiction movie. It is an interesting response to the sleek, minimalistic designs of today, however I am not sure how practical it would be typing away on one of his keyboards. Definitely would look nice on one’s desk than a beige hunk of plastic.

Just so crazy, it might just work . . .

Ok, so this is one of the weirdest things I have seen in a while. It is called a numbrella. It is this weird Jetsons looking umbrella bubble looking thing that is supposed to be the “umbrella of the 21st century.” It is like a bubble of plastic around your head. Intriguing, but will strangers want to pop you?

Please note that the model for this thing is insane or a robot from The Stepford Wives. No?

Happy Birthday, Walter.

Ok, I know that it is a bit silly to celebrate a dog’s birthday, so just humor me, ok?

The picture is from the first day that Shawn and I brought him home. He was 8 weeks old at the time. I can’t believe what a moose he has grown into in just a year! Happy Birthday, my fuzzy little guy.

Polaroids soon to be thing of the past.

I came across this article on the Chicago Tribune’s website. It made me so sad to think that this iconic film is going to no longer be produced. While it sounds like it will be a burden in many technical fields, I am more saddened by the nostalgia. We had a polaroid camera growing up and Roz and I had so much fun with it. It was so great to dance around waving that little square of film waiting to see what you captured. Sometimes this newer, better, faster technology gets in the way of some of the little joys in life. I hope that they are able to find a company to take over the production..

Happy St. Valentine’s Day

Ok, I will not be mushy, sappy, or gross. *** How about I just talk about the REAL reason why I love this day. It is the candy, baby! I can’t get enough of these conversation hearts. I know, some people think that they are chalky, disgusting little beasts tasting like dried up Pepto, but I can never get enough. Forget the chocolate, just throw a bag of these at me and I will be your sweetheart, no questions asked.

***Ok, I can’t help it. Happy Valentines Day to my wonderful husband. I love you more than all of the candy hearts in the world.

Hey, Baby, its cold outside.

Ok, so it is FREEZING here!!! It is -2° outside, and that is not even considering the wind chill. We have about two feet of snow on the ground and are predicted to get another three to six more inches tonight. I am sick of it!! There is nothing more that I would love right now than to be laying on a warm beach watching the sunset. I am craving sand between my toes and the smell of suntan lotion, maybe a foofoo drink or two. . . No more frozen tundra, please!

We got some JJ going on.

Watch out NYC and Chicago, Madison is moving on up.

Jasper Johns has a show Jasper Johns: Gray that recently started at the Art Institute of Chicago that has now moved to New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Now, I am not a huge JJ fan, at least not of his most well known targets and flags, but I would have loved to have seen this show, which deals more with colorist ideas, alphabets and maps. I was sorry to have missed the chance, or so I thought! Well, it might not be the same show, but the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art is having a exhibition of his prints. Jasper Johns: The Prints runs through April 13, 2008. I can’t wait to go check it out. Anyone want to join me?
